My Maths Journal – Term 1 – Week 7

Hey there reader,

For this year we are using a book called “Maths No Problem”. This programme comes with a Textbook and a Workbook. We can’t write in our Textbook but we can write in our Workbook, because our work book we work in it. The work i’m doing right now is from the Textbook. We get the information from the textbook then we do the actual work in our Maths book or Workbook.

It isn’t always appropriate to round numbers because sometimes you might get lower or higher than the actual number. If you were rounding all the time you might get lower than the actual number, so sometimes we have to do things accurately.

This term we are learning about how to round numbers.  I have  added an example and a actual answering about if I can do it or not. Anyways that’s all for now. We have been learning a lot out rounding to 10 million, so I will be doing more blogs about “Maths No Problem”. I’ll see you next week!

Reflection: I enjoyed doing this task because it was easy and entertaining.

Is it appropriate to round these numbers? Here is an example:-

  • 142 children were attending a tournament, round to the nearest 100.

A: If we rounded it to the nearest 100 we wouldn’t know if we were missing a student or not.

  • A population of 2387562 people, rounded to the nearest 100 000.

A: Yes, we could round this to the nearest 100 000 because the population of every country changes.

  • A salary of 34 321, round to the nearest 10 000

A: If I was earning the salary I would want to know the exact amount.

These were the question and the answers. Now for the other set of questions and answers.

I Can…

  • Read and write numbers to 10 million ✅
  • Tell the place value of a digit in a number. ✅
  • Compare and order numbers up to 10 million (getting there)
  • Round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10 000, 100 000 and 1000 000 ✅

Task 2:

What Is Cultural Identity?

Have you ever wondered what makes you you? Your name, your family, the food you eat, the language you speak, and the traditions you celebrate—these are all part of something called cultural identity!

Cultural identity is like a big, colorful puzzle made up of different pieces that tell the story of where you come from and what makes you special.

What Makes Up Cultural Identity?

  1. Language – The words you use to talk to your family and friends. Some people speak more than one language!
  2. Food – The delicious meals you eat at home, like tacos, pasta, sushi, or samosas.
  3. Clothing – Special outfits people wear for celebrations or every day, like a kimono, a sari, or jeans and a t-shirt.
  4. Traditions & Holidays – Fun celebrations like Christmas, Diwali, Matariki, or Lunar New Year that bring families and communities together.
  5. Music & Dance – The songs you listen to and the dances you learn, like salsa, hip-hop, or ballet.

Why Is Cultural Identity Important?

Cultural identity helps us feel connected to our families and communities. It teaches us where we come from and gives us a sense of belonging. It’s also amazing to learn about other people’s cultures because it helps us understand and respect each other!

So, the next time you celebrate a holiday, eat your favorite meal, or hear a special story from your family, remember—you’re celebrating your cultural identity!

    Task 3:

Scientific Method Lesson

Hey there everyone,

Today we were doing Scientific method lesson. In this lesson we followed instructions from a set of slides. Firstly we had to do a Scientific method worksheet, after finishing that we did Scientific word find. There was 15 words but only 14 was on the word find. Yes, I did get all the questions and words right. The worksheet was steps until we made it to the conclusion of the experiment. I have also included screenshots of my work so you can see my work instead of me explaining. We did both our work on the same website. I got 10/10 first try!

Steps to a Scientific Method:

Question: What is this experiment?

Research: What is the experiment?

Hypothesis: What you think will happen

Experiment: What is the experiment? e.g Our experiment is a volcano lesson

Results: What did we achieve? e.g did the experiment work?

Conclusion: Was our hypothesis correct?

Discussion: Why it happened?

Reflection: I didn’t really enjoy this because I had to redo my word find and worksheet because I deleted the tabs.

That’s all for this lesson.

Here’s my work:

SLJ (Summer Learning Journey) – Kick Start – Moana Word Puzzles

Hey bloggers,

I haven’t been blogging in a long time because it’s the last week and we are really tired. We are also deprevisioning our Chromebooks which means that everyone’s Chromebook is not under the school management which means that its not connected to the school wi-fi and the leaver’s assembly and dinner etc. So anyways back to working. So I made a word search and you have to find all the words (yes all the words). I’m tired and I’m ready for the holidays. This is probably my last blog post this year. This task was fun and I didn’t find any words. If you find any words comment them and say where. I don’t know why this has Moana in the name of the task but it’s not related to Moana. That’s all for today!

Bye!

Here’s my work:

Reflecting On The Plays – Reading – Week 8 – Term 4

Hey Bloggers,

This week we didn’t do create tasks because we were doing plays. The Play that me and my group was doing was called “Make Up Your Mind!”. This play had 10 characters not including the narrator. In this play there was a Boss, Assistant 1,  Assistant 2, Person 1, Person 2, Person 3, Person 4, Person 5 and finally Person 6. In this play there was 6 costumers who couldn’t make up their mind so assistant 2 made a invention that would make them make up their mind. The last 2 people didn’t want ice – cream they actually dinner/lunch food and the story ends with the boss saying to the 2 assistant’s that they were fired and then boss told them to come back and that’s the end!

Things I Enjoyed: Practicing and doing the play.

Things I Didn’t Enjoy: Having a dentist appointment and coming at the end of my groups play when they were performing.

Next Time I Would: Not have a dentist appointment on our play day.

My Favorite Play That I Watched: I liked watching the “A Peach For The Queen” because it was funny and interesting.

Greater Than/Less Than Negative Numbers – Maths – Week 8 – Term 4

Hey bloggers,

WALT: Compare warmer and colder temperatures.

Today I finished my maths work, I got a little bit confused so I ask a friend and they helped a lot! I didn’t know if I had to fill in the top so I didn’t fill in the top of the sheet. I think I got most of it wrong. After this we had create ta image about negative numbers e.g elevator. I don’t know if i’m going to start/finish my 2nd task after this task. I know this isn’t much but I explained everything and summarized our maths task.

Reflection: I really got confused on some of the questions so I rate it a 5/10, it’s half good and half confusing.

What We Learn’t: We learn’t about negative and positive numbers.

Bye!

Here’s my work:

Hey bloggers,

Week 7 – Term 4 – Maths

Hey Bloggers,

Walt: Create a symmetrical pattern with a vertical line of symmetry.

For this task we had to create a vertical line of symmetry then add some Numicon shapes but 2 shapes (the same color) can’t touch but if the shape is from the other side of the board it is going to touch. This was a competition. The competition was whoever makes the most base boards wins something from a box with goodies in it (popits, keychains and more). . I sadly didn’t win, the winners got 4 or 5, I don’t really remember since this was last week.

Reflection: This task was a competition and you have to be fast to win and I don;t know how the winners got 4 or 5, because we only had 2 days, maybe they did it at home?

Here’s my work:

Maths – Week 5 & 6 – Term 4

Hey bloggers,

This maths work 2 weeks all together. 1 week multiplication and 1 week division. I am posting this late because I didn’t manage to blog this in time so I am blogging it now. As you can see this is my maths work. Right now I am blogging all my drafts so don’t be alarmed that the week isn’t correct. My slideshow is plain because we were suppose to do our work not spend all this time to change and chose the designs and backgrounds.

Reflection: This task took a few days to finish but other than that it was a good and decent task to do.

Bye!
